At a colourful ceremony at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, His Royal Highness (HRH), The Prince of Wales presented new Colours to The Royal Regiment of Canada and The Toronto Scottish Regiment. In spite of the cold, near zero Celsius weather, the audience of Veterans, former members, families and other supporters witnessed a spectacular Parade that combined both Regiments and their Bands. The afternoon sun highlighted the colourful Scarlet and Scottish uniforms and reflected on the brass instruments of the combined Band. Under the overall command of LCol Cliff Trollope, CD, Guards from both Regiments marched onto the Stadium field and readied for the arrival of HRH, The Prince Charles. After a Royal Salute, HRH inspected both Regiments. The parade then formed one traditional Hollow Square formation with an alter of Drums placed in front of each Regiment. HRH The Prince Charles presented New Colours to each Regiment and they were Consecrated by the presiding Chaplains. This was an historic occasion for both Regiments The last time The Royal Regiment of Canada received new Colours was Jun 1962. We were long overdue, but this Presentation was done so well, it was well worth the wait. After the parade was dismissed, a number of private receptions with HRH were held for selected members of the Regiment and special guests. The old colours will be laid up at the Cathedral of St James later this year. More about both ceremonies will be included in the next Newsletter.
The Marching and Drill performed by the Guards and the Music played by the Bands was flawless. There was a great deal of positive feedback from those attending the Presentation. Everyone had praise for this spectacular performance. There must have been a huge amount of work and effort on the two Regiments part to perform so well on Parade with so little time to prepare. LCol Trollope, his Officers, WOs & Sgts deserve much praise for their leadership. Every soldier who took part should be very proud of their performance on this important Regimental occasion.
We want to thank John Hymers (Warrior Day Parade Council) for providing some of the Presentation of New Colours
