CHANGE OF HONOURARY COLONELS
On Thu 26 Jan, the Regiment held an impressive parade for the Annual Inspection of the Brigade
Commander, Col Gary Stafford. It was combined with a moving Ceremony for the Change of
Honorary Colonels.
There were an impressive 206 active Royals on parade in Camouflage
uniform with rifles. The Royals had the largest count in 32 Brigade and is one of the largest
Reserve Regiments in Canada.
LCol Walter Perchal deserves much credit for the Regiment's
great performance.
The outgoing Honorary Colonel, MGen Reg Lewis, CM, CMM, CD was awarded
the 5th Bar to his Canadian Forces Decoration! In total he has 57 years of Military service,
14 years of it as HCol of the Royals. This is an incredible accomplishment! His work and
dedication for the Regiment has been outstanding and he vowed to continue his support.
The incoming Honorary Colonel is Mr. Blake C. Goldring, a prominent Businessman in Toronto. He
stated "I am not a soldier." But to be fair, he has been associated with the Regiment for
some years now and is well aware of the Regiment's history, traditions and role in the
Canadian Forces. He also appeared very soldierly as he marched on the Parade Square in
his sparkling new Scarlet Uniform.

Invited by a number of High Schools, Joe Ryan spoke to many thousands of
Students during the weeks leading up to 11 Nov.
He used a prepared power-point
presentation using photos of his own and some provided by DND and others.
Joe made up to five 40 minute presentations each day at the Schools he visited.
It was a gruelling schedule, but Joe kept at it until all the commitments were met.
He visited Rick Hanson Secondary School in Streetsville, Appleby College in Oakville,
John McCrae Senior Public School in Scarborough and Sir John A McDonald High School in
Hamilton.
In addition he manned the Military displays at the Royal Winter Fair
and at Roy Thomson Hall. Not bad for a 85 year old Vet. But he is a Royal!

The annual Warriors' Day Parade will be held at the Canadian National Exhibition
